DPR For Two Subways To Be Completed In 6 Months; Committee For Separate Housing Policy For Old Wadas In Pune Soon: Kasba MLA Hemant Rasane |
The detailed project report (DPR) for two underground tunnels aimed at decongesting the bustling Shivaji and Bajirao roads is expected to be completed within the next six months. Two subways are proposed on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road from Shaniwarwada to Swargate and on Bajirao Road from Sarasbaug to Shaniwarwada. MLA Hemant Rasane informed in a press conference that the work on the subways will accelerate after the DPR is prepared on Saturday.
The old wadas within 100 meters of Shaniwarwada, which is in the A category of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), are not getting permission for any repairs. Kasba Legislative Assembly MLA Hemant Rasane informed in a press conference on Saturday that he will follow up with the central government to get this permission and secure approval for the subway from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road and Bajirao Road, which are very close to Shaniwarwada, directly to Swargate and Sarasbaug.
Rasane demanded the construction of 14 m wide and double subways from Shaniwarwada to Swargate and Bajirao Road from Shaniwarwada to Sarasbaug to solve the traffic congestion in the central city during the legislative session. For this, he also met Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale, who assured to hold a meeting of officials in this regard.
When asked about this, Rasane said that during the session, a request was made to the Archaeological Department of the Central Government to get permission for the repair and construction of both these subways, as well as the wadas within a hundred meters of Shaniwarwada. He also told the press conference that Union Minister of State and MP Muralidhar Mohol and he will follow up with the Central Government for this.
Openings will be given at a distance of about seven hundred meters for these subways, each about two and a half kilometers long, so that it will be possible for citizens going to the central market to use these subways. Rasane also mentioned that a development plan for these routes will be prepared in the next three months.
After following up with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a high-level meeting was held in the presence of Public Works Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale. After this meeting, the administration was instructed to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the subways.
The redevelopment of old wadas in Pune city, especially in the central area of Kasba constituency, has been stalled due to technical obstacles. As thousands of citizens are living in fear, there is a need to implement a separate revised policy for Pune city on the land of Thane and Mumbai. A demand has been made to form an expert committee to implement a separate housing policy. A detailed statement has also been given to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard, and the Chief Minister’s Office has instructed the Deputy Chief Secretary of the Housing Department to take necessary action, Rasane has informed.
