The case of spot fixing in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is catching up. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Anti -Corruption Unit (ACU) has placed 10 players and four franchises under suspicion. Based on media reports and unknown sources, ACU is investigating eight suspected matches.

These players and franchises are suspicious

According to the report of the Daily Star, out of the 10 players under investigation, 6 have been part of the Bangladesh national team, while 2 are unaccounted players and 2 foreign cricketers. At the same time, questions are being raised on four franchises –

  • Durbar monarchy
  • Dhaka capitals
  • Silhet Strikers
  • Chittagong Kings

These matches are being investigated

The eight matches that are being investigated on suspicion of fixing are –

  2. Rangpur Riders vs Dhaka (7 January)
  3. Dhaka vs. Silhat (10 January)
  4. Monarchy vs Dhaka (12 January)
  5. Chittagong vs. Silhat (13 January)
  6. Varshaal vs Opening Tigers (22 January)
  7. Chittagong vs. Silhat (22 January)
  8. Rajshahi vs Rangpur (23 January)

These evidence of fixing came to the fore

The points that are being investigated on suspicion include –

  • Three consecutive wide and no-ball by bowlers
  • Suspected playing xi selection
  • Chasing a big goal deliberately batting in the middle over

Question on the fairness of ACU officials

Different 7 ACU Integrity officers have been appointed for each team in BPL, but their functioning is also being doubted. The main reason for this is that the franchise itself is responsible for their payment, housing and other facilities, which has raised questions on their fairness.

A senior BCB official said on the condition of anonymity –
“The issue was taken to BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chaudhary and President Farooq Ahmed. The question is, how can ACU officials conduct independent investigation, when all their expenses are being raised by the franchisees? This can cause them to be biased. However, the matter was agreed, but there was no change later. This is a very strange situation. “

Now it has to be seen what action BCB takes in this case and whether a big racket of fixing in BPL comes out or not.
