Just before the arrival of the New Year, Israel has been dealt a double blow. Yemen’s Houthi rebels have started attacking Israel, due to which Israel is now embroiled in a war on three fronts. Israel’s war with Hamas and Hezbollah is already going on. On the other hand, there have also been obstacles in the talks between Israel and Hamas regarding the ceasefire in Gaza.
Houthi rebels attack
The Israeli military reported on Monday night that its air defense system successfully intercepted a ballistic missile fired at Israel from Yemen. The attacks caused sirens to sound across central Israel. This incident is the seventh attack in two weeks. According to the military, the missile was destroyed before it entered Israeli airspace, although falling debris raised concerns.
Netanyahu’s warning
According to ‘The Times of Israel’ report, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said, “We are just starting with them. We will not allow them to attack Israel. “Until they learn, we will deliver the final blow to them.” Netanyahu assured that after Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syria, now Houthis will also learn.
Hamas reneges on ceasefire
Meanwhile, Hamas is reported to have reneged on the release of hostages during ceasefire talks with Israel. Israel says that under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, Hamas was to release 34 prisoners, but Hamas has offered to release only 22 prisoners. Israel has rejected the offer and demanded the release of all 34 prisoners.
Possible settlement situation
Egypt’s Al-Ghad media outlet reported that Israel has requested Hamas to release 11 people whom Israel considers to be Israeli soldiers. Amidst all this development, the situation in Israel remains extremely tense, especially in view of the health condition of Netanyahu, who is recently hospitalized after prostate surgery.
