As soon as Donald Trump assumed power in the country, he started taking steps to implement the policy of ‘America First’. Trump has announced that he will impose a 25 percent tariff on goods coming from Canada and Mexico. The reason behind imposing tariffs is to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

Trump’s decision has further increased the ongoing tension between Canada and America. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Alberta Premier Daniel Smith have been aggressive in responding to Trump’s decision. Ontario Premier Doug Ford has made it clear that a trade war is a possibility. All three leaders are claiming that Canada has reserves of energy and essential minerals. If Trump is to fulfill his promise to ‘jumpstart’ the American economy, he needs us.

When announcing his tariffs, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said that a trade war between Canada and the US would almost certainly start. If a trade war breaks out between the two countries, it will not be good for the economy of both the countries and China will directly benefit from it. Trump may think that imposing his tariffs will not cause any harm to America, but it is not so.
