US President Donald Trump said that he believes that India would reduce tariffs on American goods. However, Trump has also reiterated the threat of imposing American tariffs on India from 2 April. In an interview, Trump discussed America’s relations with India. When asked about the talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, Trump said that he has “very good relations” with India. “But my only problem with India is that it is one of the most tariffs in the world.”

Trump hoped that India will reduce tariffs

US President Donald Trump said, “I believe that he will probably reduce the tariffs. But from April 2 we will collect the same tariff from them that they collect from us.” When asked about the India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor, Trump did not specifically mention China. But he said that it is “a wonderful group of countries that are coming together to compete with countries that are harming us in terms of business.”

‘India imposed heavy duty on America’

Trump signed the IMEC during Modi’s visit to America. He said, “We have a powerful group of partners in business.” Trump said earlier this month that India has agreed to “reduce” its tariff. He also claimed that India imposes heavy duty on America. Due to which it becomes difficult to sell the product there. However, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal told a parliamentary committee in New Delhi on March 10 that the talks are still going on and no agreement has been reached between India and the US on trade fee yet.
