What is the Alien Animes Act, 1798?
The law that is being implemented is the Alien Animes Act, 1798. It provides special powers to the President under wart-time circumstances, under which he can exclude any non-American citizen in the name of national security.
According to this law, if America is in war with a country, the President will have the right to declare the citizens of that country “Alien Animi” and deport them.
Especially foreign nationals of 14 years or older can be targeted under this law.
Why do Trump want to apply it under normal circumstances?
Although this law was specially designed for a war period, Donald Trump wants to apply it even under normal conditions. This is the reason that this decision is being strongly opposed and preparations are being made for the legal challenge.
