Mumbai – After eating sweet offerings like Bundi and Peda offered by devotees in the temple of Sai Baba in Shirdi, the village dogs have suffered from diseases like diabetes, obesity, skin diseases and fatty liver. The thick-fresh dogs roaming on the four legs have become so lazy after eating sweets that they cannot even walk properly.
Devotees coming to Shirdi show mercy towards animals by feeding Bundi, Peda and Chinese or Revdi as offerings to dogs roaming outside the temple. This increases the sugar level in the dog’s body. Apart from this, the amount of oil and ghee is also increasing. This causes problems like diabetes, obesity, skin disease, fatty liver and pancreatitis. Thus, the lifetime of dogs decreases due to diseases. Therefore, devotees who go to work of kindness become a threat to dogs. That is why the dog is advised to feed bread, biscuits or milk. The veterinary officer of the region said this.
During his lifetime, Sai Baba of Shirdi used to feed dogs with money received in alms. He presented an example of love for animals. This is the reason that now devotees coming to Shirdi are also seen feeding dogs of Bundi laddus or pada prasad around the temple. There are currently more than 100 dogs in the temple complex. These thick dogs have become very lazy. The body has lost its vitality. They are seen sleeping everywhere.
Now concerned citizens have appealed to animal-lover organizations to pay attention to the deteriorating physical condition of Shirdi dogs, organize camps and arrange for them. Another appeal has also been made to install boards outside the temple, in which the dogs have been appealed not to feed sweet prasad.
Every year three and a half to four crore devotees come to see Shidi Sai Baba. Devotees keep coming and going, but the dogs of Shirdi live in the same way. Therefore, instead of threatening their health by feeding offerings to the animals, the local people have expressed the feeling that if they are given bread, bread or milk, then they will get the merit of animal protection.
