Mumbai: A shocking incident occurred in Oshiwara, where a dog was shot with a weapon at the Shanti Van Society late Saturday night.

The bullet passed through the dog’s body, and the injured dog was admitted to an animal hospital in critical condition.

A society member filed a complaint with the Oshiwara police, leading to a case being registered under Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11(1)(a) (animal cruelty) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act on Sunday.

According to the police, the Shanti Van Society is located in the MHADA Colony area of Oshiwara. Around 2 a.m. on Sunday, a few residents were strolling within the society premises when they heard a loud sound.

Rushing toward the noise, they found a dog in pain, bleeding from a bullet wound. The residents immediately rushed the dog to Vaidik Animal Hospital in Oshiwara. The dog sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

The identity of the shooter and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unknown.

The complainant stated, “The bullet has not been removed yet, as doing so might cause further harm. The dog’s condition is critical. We found no one near the dog, but it was clear someone had shot it.”

The society member Kaydan Gaikwa, 24, lodged a formal complaint with the police, who are now investigating the matter.

A police officer stated, “The society members ran toward the dog and found a hole in its back body. According to the members, they heard the sound coming from the first floor of the society. They rushed to the first floor but did not see anyone there.”
