Doctors Treat Patients Wearing Black Bands In Protest; Memoranda Addressing CM, Dy CM, Handed Over To Deans Of Government Medical Colleges Over The Issue |
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Doctors treated patients in hospitals attached to government medical colleges on Monday with black bands as mark of protest of appointment of Dr Aruna Kumar as Director of Medical Education.
In Bhopal, they protested at Gandhi Medical College (GMC) on the same issue. They are demanding immediate cancellation of appointment of Dr Kumar. They protested for justice to Dr Bala Saraswati who had committed suicide in August 2023. Dr Kumar was HoD of Gynaecology department at GMC.
Junior doctors in all medical colleges of the state – Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Rewa and Sagar treated patients by wearing black bands and attended them.
Progressive Medical Teachers’ Association, Madhya Pradesh, Junior Doctors Association, Madhya Pradesh held strong protests in the entire state, in which medical teachers and junior doctors of medical colleges of the entire state gave a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Principal Secretary and expressing their protest to their respective deans.
JUDA president Dr Kuldeep Gutpa said, ‘JUDA, MTA are protesting the appointment of Dr Aruna Kumar due to her previous records of autocratic attitude leading to a toxic atmosphere at GMC as well as Hamidia Hospital. So, if she again takes charge as DME, the atmosphere will be toxic at medical colleges as well as in hospitals.’
