In connection with a 17-year-old girl’s rape by her 35-year-old neighbor last week, who was seven months pregnant and had aborted her pregnancy, a doctor, and the main accused, along with his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, were produced in court where the doctor was granted one day of police custody for further investigation while the three accused were sent to judicial custody. However, the main accused’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law have been arrested on Sunday and produced on Monday.
The doctor has been arrested for allegedly providing abortion pills to the victim, said police officials. The police stated that after an investigation on Saturday, they arrested the 54-year-old doctor who runs a clinic in the locality.
Shankar Awatade, senior police inspector from the Central police station, said, ‘So far, four accused have been arrested and produced in court, and a doctor has been sent to police custody for further investigation, while three have been remanded in judicial custody.’
“During the investigation, we learned that the accused took medicine from a doctor for an abortion. We registered a case against him under the provisions of the Medical Practices Act. The doctor was produced in court and was remanded to police custody for further investigation.” said investigating officer.
Earlier, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating minor. Following the discovery of her pregnancy, the accused allegedly provided pills for an abortion. She had a miscarriage, and the fetus had been buried. The alleged crime involves the accused’s wife and in-laws helping him.
The accused lived with his wife and children in Ulhasnagar, while the victim, a student, was his neighbour. Later, a case was filed against the accused, his mother-in-law, and sister-in-law under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
