The Skoda driver in the Palm Beach road accident, has been identified to a doctor from Thane. The alleged accused identified as Dr. Anil Badrinath Kadia (34), had collided with a two wheeler that was coming from the opposite direction on Palm Beach road near Kopri, killing two women. Dr. Kadia was arrested by APMC police on Monday and was presented before the court and has been dent to police custody till Wednesday.
On Sunday morning, at around 6:30 am, Dr. Kadia crashed his Skoda car into the scooter killing Sanskruti Khokale (22), who lived in Kamothe Sector-18, and her friend Anjali Sudhakar Pandey (19), a resident of Bonkode village. While Khokale had died on the spot, Pandey died during the course of treatment. Following the accident, Kadia fled from the spot along with the car without stopping.
Khokale and Pandey were colleagues at a BPO based out of Turbhe MIDC wherein they were telecallers at a US process. After finishing their night shift from 8.30 pm t0 6.30 am, they both were going on the scooty of Khokale. Khokale was to drop Pandey at Bonkode and had taken Kopri service road to enter the Palm Beach road to take a right for Bonkode. Kadia, who was at a relative’s house in NAvi Mumbai the previous night, was going towards Thane to his residence when the accident happened.
“Being a doctor, he should have stopped immediately after the accident and tried to help the victims. Kadia is a MD who practices at various hospitals. He told us that he was afraid to stop and hence he fled away,” a police officer said.
After the accident, the police could not find any cctv grab that had the registration number of the car but there were pieces of his broken number plate on the road. The police joined the pieces and found Kadia.
