Barwani (Madhya Pradesh): Chaos erupted at Barwani District Hospital following allegations of negligence by ENT specialist Dr Anupam Batra in treating a patient.

The doctor has been accused of botching up a facial bone treatment following which the patient was unable to consume water as his mouth was clamped with wires.

Patient Shobharam Kirade from Lingwa, Dhar district, visited District Hospital on April 9 seeking treatment for a facial fracture. Dr Batra referred him to Ashagram, a private hospital, claiming that he couldn’t get proper treatment at the District Hospital.

During treatment at Ashagram, medical staff sealed Kirade’s mouth with dental wiring.

During follow-up, another facial specialist warned him that the procedure was not performed properly and that if the mouth is not opened immediately, it could prove to be life-threatening.

Kirade filed a police complaint and requested stern action against those responsible.

Jay Adiwasi Yuva Shakti (JAYS) member Sandeep Nargawane said that he would inform the district administration about the matter.

He alleged that some doctors are exploiting financially disadvantaged patients by sending them to private hospitals for treatment. Moreover, he also cautioned of fierce agitation if no concrete action is taken against the guilty doctors.
