Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Divyang Seva Sangh (CDSS) protested against the Vishnu Deo Sai government’s policies on International Day of Disabled Persons on Tuesday, claiming their demands remain unmet. Every year on December 3, the disabled got celebrated across the world.
In a demonstration in Raipur, protestors attempted to march towards the Chief Minister’s House but were stopped and briefly detained by police at Sahu Bhawan, Tikrapara.
A CDSS representative accused the ruling BJP of failing to fulfill promises made during the assembly elections, including a pension increase for the disabled from ₹500 to ₹2500. Beneficiaries of Mahatari Vandan Scheme are receiving ₹1000 monthly contrary to it disabled people are still getting pension of ₹ 500.
“We submitted a memorandum to CM Sai three months ago. It’s disheartening that no action has been taken,” said Nitish, another CDSS representative. With no other option left, we organized a peaceful rally to attract the attention of the government, but faced police repression, he complained.
Rohit Sahu expressed frustration, stating that the government used excessive force against the demonstrators, including dragging the disabled individuals on the streets. He added that the government has not addressed issues surrounding fake disability certificates, lamenting the challenges they face.
