In a horrifying incident, a group of women celebrating Women’s Day at Purple Butterfly restaurant in Airoli Sector 4 were allegedly served food containing a dead rat. The shocking discovery led to a police complaint, and further action is being taken by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Jyoti Konde, a salon owner from Airoli Sector 8, had organized a Women’s Day celebration with her friends on March 8. After the event, she and eight other women went to Purple Butterfly restaurant for dinner. They ordered various dishes, and one of them discovered a dead rat pup in her plate while eating Manchurian.
Upon noticing the contaminant, the women immediately confronted the restaurant manager, who initially tried to dismiss their claims, claimed the complainant. However, upon further questioning, he apologized, as per the complainant. The women then inspected the restaurant’s kitchen and found it to be extremely unhygienic, they alleged.
They captured photos and videos of both the contaminated food and the filthy kitchen, which were later reported to the Rabale Police. “We along with FDA officials, arrived at the scene and conducted an inspection. Then registered a case against the restaurant’s owner, manager, and staff. FDA will do its further investigation,” a police officer from Rabale police station said.
The case has been registered under section 125 of the BNS (acts done rashly or negligently that endanger human life or personal safety) along with sections of The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
