Canada Work Permit Expiry: There is widespread dissatisfaction among tourists towards Justin Trudeau’s government in Canada. In such a situation, the future of 7 lakh foreign students including those who have left India is in danger.
- Nearly five million temporary permits are expected to be phased out in Canada by the end of 2025. In this scenario, most tourists would leave Canada after their permits expire. Canadian Immigration Minister Mark Miller gave this information earlier this week.
- Of these 50 lakh permits, 7 lakh permits are for foreign students, who have been facing trouble recently due to the anti-tourism policies of the Trudeau government.
- Let us tell you here that this type of work permit is usually issued for a period of nine months to three years. It allows foreign students with a diploma or degree to gain the work-related experience needed to apply for permanent residence in the country.
- Miller said the Canada Border Services Agency will take strict action against violators. He also clarified that all temporary tourists will not need to go. Some will require a new or post-graduation work permit.
- According to the Canadian Immigration Department, there will be more than one million foreign students in Canada by the year 2023. Of these, 3,96,235 had post-graduation work permits by the end of 2023, almost three times that of 2018.
- However, lakhs of work permits are going to expire in the next one year. Earlier, Canada had already cut international student permits by 35 percent. Additionally, the Trudeau government is planning a further 10 per cent cut in 2025.
