On the condition of Chennai Super Kings, former West Indies batsman Darren Ganga has said, “I am surprised by the team management of Chennai Super Kings.” Chennai Super Kings started the first season of IPL in 2008 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and he is still his captain after 17 years.
He said, ‘Ravindra Jadeja was made the captain in the IPL 2022 season. But he did not find it convenient, so he left the captaincy in the current session and Dhoni again took the captaincy. In the next season, Rituraj Gaikwad was declared captain and the captaincy was again handed over to Dhoni due to his injury in the current season.
Darren Ganga said, “On the one hand the head coach and management of Chennai Super Kings say that they will now give a chance to young talents, but surprisingly they do not want to give a chance to any young new captain.” Knowing that he will not play any cricket between two IPL sessions, Dhoni remains captain. Ganga is true because Dhoni is not able to play due to injury and old age.
He said, “Even though Dhoni himself blocks a regular player of the team who could perform better, so that the team’s combination was damaged, he still maintains his place in the team.” When Jadeja or Gaikwad is declared unfit as captain, Chennai should entrust the responsibility to another young captain. Why does Dhoni himself not resign from captaincy? The franchise has replaced young captains in place of Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Darren Ganga said, “How can the management team restructure, when it is not even known whether Dhoni will play in the upcoming session or not and there is uncertainty about who will be the captain?” If Chennai prepares the team by keeping Dhoni at the center, then the situation will not improve and they will have to go back where they are. Dhoni and the team management shows that they do not care about becoming captain, but it seems that they have such ambitions.
