Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is currently experiencing severe cold conditions with dense fog enveloping parts of the state. Gwalior, Chambal, and Rewa divisions are the worst affected, with visibility in some areas dropping to less than 100 meters.
Dense fog has been reported in 12 districts, including Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Chhatarpur, and Rewa, with visibility as low as 50 meters in certain places. Moderate fog covers an additional 11 districts, including Neemuch, Shivpuri, and Jabalpur.
The India Meteorological Department predicts foggy conditions and cold weather to persist for the next two days. By January 6-7, the fog is expected to clear, leading to a rise in day and night temperatures. However, another spell of intense cold is likely to follow.
Cold winds from the northern states, fuelled by snow in Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, are keeping temperatures low. Once the snow begins to melt, wind speeds will increase, further dropping temperatures across Madhya Pradesh. A cold wave may last for 20-22 days in January.

Record-Breaking Winter
This winter has already broken records. November witnessed its coldest spell in 36 years in Bhopal, while December turned out colder than January in many regions. Schools in various districts, including Bhopal and Gwalior, have adjusted timings to combat the severe cold. Even animals at Bhopal’s Van Vihar National Park are being protected with heaters, reflecting the harsh weather conditions.
The state continues to reel under the impact of dense fog and biting cold. While brief relief is expected in the coming days, another cold spell is anticipated, making it a challenging winter season for residents.
