Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): Congress workers led by Mukesh Hoti staged a protest outside the SDM office against Forest Minister Vijay Shah’s controversial remark on Army officer Colonel Sophia Qureshi. A blackened effigy was burnt. Leaders demanded Shah’s resignation and apology, calling the remark insulting to women soldiers and the Indian Army’s dignity.
Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): Congress leader Lav Joshi strongly condemned BJP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah’s controversial remark referring to Colonel Sophia Qureshi as ‘sister of terrorists’ during a recent event in Mhow. Calling the statement disrespectful to the Indian Army and women soldiers, he demanded a public apology.
Congress leaders called the remark shameful and urged the BJP to remove Shah from his ministerial position. Facing backlash, Dr Shah later clarified that his comments were made in an emotional moment and not intended to insult any community or Colonel Qureshi. He publicly apologised, stating, ‘I sincerely apologise ten times for my words’.
Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh): Youth Congress protested against Cabinet Minister and district in-charge Vijay Shah over his controversial remarks on Colonel Sophia Qureshi. Protesters attempted to burn an effigy of the minister, leading to a scuffle with police.
Youth Congress warned they would block Shah’s entry to Ratlam and show black flags if he visited. District Youth Congress President Mayank Jat termed the statement disgraceful.
City Congress President Mahendra Kataria strongly condemned Shah’s ‘street-level language’ against a decorated Army officer, calling it demoralising for the armed forces and demanding his removal from the cabinet.
State Mahila Congress Working President Yasmin Sherani said, ‘Colonel Sophia Qureshi is a proud daughter of India. Minister Shah’s offensive remark insults her service. We urge the PM and CM to immediately sack him’.
Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh): Congress spokesperson Sabir Fitwell condemned Minister Vijay Shah for calling Indian Army officer Colonel Sophia Qureshi ‘sister of terrorists’. Qureshi, the face of briefing by Indian army during Operation Sindoor, was hailed nationwide for her bravery.
Fitwell said Shah’s remarks insult India’s armed forces, women’s power and national unity. He demanded CM Mohan Yadav immediately sack Shah, calling his comments divisive and shameful. He recalled Shah’s past controversial statements and urged the BJP government to uphold the dignity of national heroes.
Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh, Umang Singhar, slammed CM Mohan Yadav for remaining silent over Forest Minister Vijay Shah’s controversial remark on Army officer Colonel Sophia Qureshi.
Singhar pointed out that the Jabalpur High Court has ordered an FIR against Shah, yet the CM remains ‘Mohan’ and ‘Moun’ (silent). He demanded Shah’s immediate resignation.
