Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone of three new projects of Delhi University (DU). These include the East Campus in Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi, the West Campus in Dwarka, and a new college named after Veer Savarkar at the Roshanpura campus in Najafgarh. After the completion of these projects, 10,000 new seats will be added for various courses in Delhi University.

New opportunities for students in DU

  • 2026-27 Academic Session:
    5,000 additional seats will be available in the first phase.
  • By 2030:
    Another 5,000 seats are likely to be added in the second phase.
  • These new campuses and colleges will provide more admission opportunities to the students of Delhi.

Details of new projects

  1. East Campus, Surajmal Vihar (East Delhi):
    • Law Faculty will be constructed.
    • Project Area: 15.25 Acre.
    • Estimated cost: Rs 373 crore.
    • It will have academic buildings and modern facilities.
  2. West Campus, Dwarka:
    • In the first phase, an academic building will be built in an area of ​​19434.28 square meters.
    • Estimated cost: Rs 107 crore.
    • This campus will promote the academic and cultural programs of DU.
  3. New College, Najafgarh (Roshanpura):
    • A new college will be built in the name of Veer Savarkar.
    • Project Area: 18816.56 sq.m.
    • Estimated cost: Rs 140 crore.

Dream of new projects fulfilled after 30 years

According to DU teachers, the university was waiting for the construction of a new college and campus for 30 years. Now this dream is coming true. Many courses will be started in these new institutions, which will provide better opportunities for modern education to the students.

New courses like computer science and AI will start

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh said that many new courses will be started in East and West Campus, such as:

  • computer science
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • data science

These two campuses will have better coordination with the North Campus and integrated cultural programs can be organised.

Prime Minister’s gift: Investment of more than Rs 600 crore

Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of these three projects in DU costing more than Rs 600 crore. This is an important achievement for the students and teachers of DU, which will further raise the standards of higher education in Delhi.
