In Delhi, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is completely in action mode. Preparations are being made to remove one thousand electric buses on the roads of Delhi this month. Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh has said that the national capital will get more than 1,000 electric buses this month. Pankaj Singh said that the Delhi Transport Department (DTC) is currently struggling with a loss of Rs 235 crore. He said that the government is working on a scheme and its goal is to make the region profitable within a year. Pankaj Singh said, “This month we will bring more than 1,000 electric buses to Delhi.”
Emphasis on accessible and convenient transport
Singh was sworn in on 20 February by Singh, one of the six cabinet ministers in the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi. Minister Singh, Minister of Transport, Health and other departments emphasized the need to make Delhi’s transport system more accessible and convenient to the public. Singh said, “We need to improve public transport so that people have to depend less on private vehicles. Our first step will be to start electric buses in Delhi, then further improvements will be made to strengthen the transport network. ”
The first phase will focus on immediate and necessary reforms.
He said that in the next six months, there will be a gradual improvement in the transport sector in the city. He said, “In the first phase, we will focus on immediate and necessary reforms. In the second phase we will start major projects to make public transport more efficient and accessible. As part of the government’s approach to the modern and environmentally friendly transport system, Singh emphasized the importance of increasing the number of electric buses in Delhi. He said, “There are not enough electric buses in Delhi, we will bring more.”
Will help in making the city clean
He said, “The arrival of more than 1,000 electric buses this month will give a big boost to public transport, which will help in making the city clean.” He said that Delhi’s electric vehicle (EV) policy, 2020, which ended in August last year, has been extended several times. The latest expansion is till 31 March 2025. Former Chief Minister Atishi had said in a press conference on 28 November 2024 that in view of the deteriorating air quality, the Delhi cabinet has decided to expand the EV policy and restore the pending subsidy and road tax exemption from 1 January.
