The Supreme Court collegium is considering not making close relatives of High Court judges as judges. It is believed that this proposal has been made by a senior judge, which if implemented can lead to more inclusivity in the appointment of judges and giving preference to caste over merit in the appointment of judges can stop.
The Supreme Court Collegium has directed not to recommend candidates whose parents or close relatives have been present or former judges of the Supreme Court or High Court. However, this offer may disqualify any eligible candidate. It is believed that first generation lawyers will get a new opportunity to work as judges. Representation of different communities will increase in the courts. The three-member collegium includes Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice B.R. Gavai and Judge Suryakant are included. The five-member collegium of the Supreme Court includes Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Abhay S. Oka included. This collegium recommends names for the appointment of High Court judges. The Supreme Court Collegium has now started personal talks with lawyers and officials for promotion of judges in the High Court.
