New Delhi: Delhi cabinet minister Parvesh Verma took decisive action on Friday, March 21, by suspending a Public Works Department (PWD) executive engineer after identifying serious flaws during his inspection of Patparganj.

During his visit, Verma highlighted that Delhi’s drainage system was inadequate, with little improvement in the last 10 years. “The cleaning of drains is the responsibility of the PWD department, which is not happening. This is why I have ordered that the XEN here be suspended. All officers have been clearly told that if they do not work properly, action will be taken. We can’t leave Delhi, our capital, like this,” he said, as per a report by ANI.

To address these concerns, he emphasised increasing the capacity of drains to prevent waterlogging and improving wastewater management.

Verma also revealed discussions with the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini regarding industrial wastewater treatment.

He stressed the need for all water flowing into the Yamuna to be fully treated through Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). “I will personally inspect each STP, and any laxity will not be tolerated. I am making them run on the roads. If they lose fat, work will get done,” he added.

“The existing system will have to be changed, and we will resolve all issues. We will leave no stone unturned…In the last 10 years, officers have become thick-skinned; we will get rid of this. We are making all of them work on the ground. I, too, am working on the ground,” he further told ANI.
