The Delhi government has started action on several schools, taking a tough stance against the irregularities related to dummy schooling and education. In the inspection campaign conducted under the supervision of District Magistrate (DM), notices have been issued to 10 schools so far. Also, the process of canceling recognition of schools violating serious rules has been started.
Action on dummy schooling begins
During the inspection, DM was also accompanied by senior officials of the Directorate of Education and experienced academics. This step has been taken, especially keeping in mind the increasing complaints about dummy schooling and neglect of students of economically weaker section (EWS). Dummy schooling is the process in which students are only enrolled in school, but do not register attendance in classes and focus on coaching institutes.
The matter was raised in public dialogue, discussion was held at CM residence
The matter came to light during a public dialogue organized at the residence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, where many parents had complained about the arbitrary fees of private schools and threats to withdraw children. After this, the Chief Minister directed the Education Department to identify such schools and send notices with immediate effect.
Example revealed in model town school
The case of Queen Mary School in Model Town became a prime example of this campaign, where direct action was taken after complaints from parents. It was told that there are at least 20 schools including this school which are involved in dummy schooling and other educational violations.
Chief Minister’s strict message
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta clarified, “Mentally torturing students and parents by any school, making arbitrary increase in fees or threatening to remove children is completely unacceptable. The government is committed to ensure quality education to all children.”
He said that if a school is found to be violating the rules, he would have to face severe punishment. The Education Department has been instructed to investigate all the complaints and take immediate action.
Government cautious about future security
The Chief Minister reiterated that the Delhi government would not compromise with the future of any student. Strict action will be taken under the law on the guilty schools so that the education system can be made transparent and responsible.
