New Delhi: A major change may soon be seen on the roads of the capital Delhi. The Delhi government is preparing to implement a new electric vehicle policy under ‘Delhi Ev Policy 2.0’. The objective of this policy is to make the capital more pollution free and under this, old CNG auto, taxi and petrol two -wheelers will be removed in a phased manner.

Vehicles older than 10 years will be removed

Under the Delhi Ev Policy 2.0, the government’s focus is on removing CNG auto, taxi and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) over 10 years old. They will be replaced by electric auto, two-wheeler, electric LCV, bus and truck. The government is also working on a plan to give subsidy and incentives for this.

18,000 out of 94,000 autorickshaws will be affected

There are currently around 94,000 autorickshaws registered in Delhi, the estimated 20% of which more than 18,000 autos are older than 10 years. Under the new policy, they will need to be converted into electric autos. In such a situation, the government can also provide options like financial assistance, subsidy and loan scheme to drivers.

Price and benefits of electric auto

Currently, the new CNG auto in Delhi costs up to Rs 4-6 lakh, while the price of electric auto is about Rs 5 lakh. Major companies such as Mahindra, Bajaj, TVS etc. have introduced several options of electric auto in the market, including 5 to 8 years of battery warranty.

Will petrol two-wheeler registration be stopped?

According to reports, no petrol two-wheeler will be registered in Delhi from August 2026 under Delhi Ev Policy 2.0. That is, whatever new two -wheelers are registered, they will be electric. The government aims to convert 95% two-wheeler into EV by 2027.

Charging infrastructure will get a boost

In the new EV policy, the government has also proposed to set up 13,200 charging stations. The aim of this is that one charging station is available every 5 kilometers. However, no deadline has been announced at the moment when these stations will be fully developed.
