With DC’s chances of winning looking slim after losing early wickets, Ashutosh turned the game around, guiding his team to a one-wicket win with three balls to spare.
In a heartwarming post-match moment, Ashutosh dedicated his innings and the ‘Player of the Match’ award to former Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan. He even called Dhawan on video from the DC dressing room, a moment that quickly went viral on social media after being shared by DC’s official handles.
Following the match winning knock Ashutosh credited his success to lessons learned from his past IPL experiences. After receiving his Player Of The Match award, the right handed player said, “I missed out on finishing the game a couple of times last year, so I spent this entire year visualizing and working on that,”.
Ashutosh said last year that his interactions with Shikhar Dhawan helped him understand the importance of ‘visualisation, manifestation’ and ‘positive thinking’, something that the former India opener keeps stressing about.
Ashutosh also praised all-rounder Vipraj Nigam for his crucial 15-ball 39 cameo but also dedicated his award to Shikhar Dhawan. He further added,“I told Vipraj to keep hitting, and he was calm when we needed him the most. I want to dedicate this award to my mentor, Shikhar paaji.”

Before his stint with DC, Ashutosh had a solid IPL debut season with PBKS, where he scored 189 runs from nine innings at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 167.25.
