Business in hundreds of markets in Delhi on Friday in protest against the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has come to a complete standstill. The bandh was called by the Delhi Hindustani Mercantile Association (DHMA), which has been supported by major business organizations like CAT, CTI, Delhi Trade Federation, BUVM.
More than 700 markets in the capital closed
About 700 markets of Delhi like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Chawdi Bazaar, Sadar Bazar, Bhagirath Place, Khari Baali, Kashmiri Gate, Dariyaganj, Rajouri Garden have been closed today. This closed terrorist attack has been organized to give respect to the people who lost their lives and a message of solidarity to the government.
Protest marches and demonstrations
Protest marches and demonstrations were held by merchant organizations in several markets during the bandh. In major commercial areas like Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar, traders gathered in large numbers and expressed their anger against terrorism.
Essential services will remain on
However, essential services such as medicines shops, vegetable sellers, petrol pumps and freight transportation are normally operational so that there is no inconvenience to the general public.
These organizations came in support of bandh
Organizations supporting the bandh include New Delhi Traders Association, Khan Market Traders Association, Chawdi Market Paper Merchant Association, Delhi Steel Tools and Hardware Traders Association including several regional traders union.
DHMA General Secretary Sri Bhagwan Bansal said that this closed is not a political stand but a symbol of condolences and solidarity towards the country and the people.
