Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal has announced his retirement from electoral politics. He has written a letter to Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and announced his retirement from politics citing increasing age.
In the letter, while announcing his retirement from electoral politics, he expressed his gratitude for the respect given by all the party MLAs. He said that he now wants to stay away from electoral politics due to his age, but will continue to serve the party.
Informed Kejriwal by writing a letter
In a letter to Kejriwal, Ram Niwas Goyal wrote, ‘I humbly want to tell you that for the last 10 years, I have efficiently performed my duties as MLA and Shahdara Assembly Speaker. You have always given me a lot of respect for which I will always be grateful to you. The party and all the MLAs also gave me a lot of respect, for this I express my gratitude to everyone.
He further wrote in the letter, ‘Due to my age I want to stay away from electoral politics. I assure you that I will continue to serve the Aam Aadmi Party with all my heart, mind and wealth. Whatever responsibility you give me, I will try to fulfill it.
Kejriwal’s reaction
In response to his letter, Kejriwal wrote, ‘Ramniwas Goyal ji’s decision to stay away from electoral politics is an emotional moment for all of us. His guidance over the years has shown us the right direction inside and outside the House. Due to his advancing age and poor health, he had recently expressed his desire to withdraw from electoral politics. We respect his decision. Goyal Saheb was, is and will remain the protector of our family. The party will always need his experience and services in future also.
He has been in politics for a long time
Let us tell you that Ramniwas Goyal has been in politics for a long time. In 1993, he was elected MLA from Shahdara seat on BJP ticket. Later he joined the Aam Aadmi Party when it came into existence. After this, he won consecutively in the last two elections and then became the Speaker of the Assembly.
