Delhi Election Commission Releases Voter List For The Upcoming Assembly Polls | Representational Image
New Delhi: The Delhi Election Commission on Monday released the final voter list ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. There are over 1.53 crore people on the list. Out of the total voters, around 83 lakh are male voters and over 70 lakh are female voters. Notably, voters whose names are not on the list cannot cast their votes. The list was released amid the ongoing war of words between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
How To Check Names:
People can check their names by visiting the official website of the Delhi EC – ceodelhi.gov.in. Voters can click on the “Electoral Roll”. A new page will open, where they can check their name by selecting the district in which they are living and their assembly constituency.
AAP vs BJP:
Earlier, the ruling AAP had alleged discrepancies in the vote list. Kejriwal had also accused the BJP of running “Operation Lotus” in the New Delhi constituency since December 15 to delete voters from the voter list.
Meanwhile, the saffron party claimed that the names of only “fake” voters were deleted. On January 2, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva unveiled a poster titled “Farzi voters se ishq hai”.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had also accused Kejriwal and the AAP government in Delhi of helping Rohingyas settle in the national capital for votes.
On Saturday, the district election officer of New Delhi rejected AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh’s allegations as “baseless” related to the deletion of voter names in the assembly constituency from where party convener and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will contest upcoming polls.
The allegations of Singh that the district election officer (DEO), New Delhi, did not provide details of applicants seeking vote deletion and that the officer was “deliberately” deleting names of voters were “factually incorrect and baseless”, the DEO said in a post on X.
Singh on Friday met the New Delhi DEO seeking names of those who filed applications for deletion of names of voters in the constituency. The AAP accused the BJP of filing applications in bulk for the deletion of names of voters who support the Kejriwal-led party across Delhi.
The officer asserted that the process of deleting any name from the electoral roll was carried out after a thorough verification strictly in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines and a mere submission of a list for deletion does not start the process.
“As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the summary of Form 7, which includes the names of both the objectors and objectees, is shared with all recognised political parties including AAP on a weekly basis through Form 10,” the New Delhi DEO said in a post on X.
This information is also uploaded on the official website of CEO Delhi for public access and transparency. Hence, the statement that objectors’ names are not being shared is factually not correct, he said.
