Kolkata: Amid ‘boycott’ of Bangladeshi patients by two hospitals in Kolkata and Durgapur, other major hospitals and guest houses where Bangladeshis used to visit said that the number of patients has gone down during the unrest.

A medicine shopkeeper in Fortis hospital on anonymity said that the number of patients from Bangladesh is gradually falling.

“Previously there used to be many Bangladeshi patients in our hospital. Till July-August there used to be several patients. After August the numbers started reducing and now it is minimum,” said the Fortis pharmacy worker.

Dr Sudipto Mitra, CEO of Peerless Hospital, said, “There are very few Bangladeshi patients coming now. During August, the patients started reducing. From then to now, there has been a continuous reduction in the number of patients and now it is the lowest.”

Notably, the guest house owners are also getting less Bangladeshi nationals in their lodges presently.

Ramakrishna Paramanik of Matri Alay Guest House said that there was a time when they had problems in giving accommodation to the family members of the patients.

“Now since medical visas are not being given, the number of patients is becoming less. Those who are with old medical visas are visiting, but that number is gradually decreasing due to the continuous unrest in Bangladesh,” added Pramanik.

Worker of Om Shanti lodge on anonymity mentioned that they have ‘boycotted’ Bangladeshis till the violence at atrocities on minorities residing there doesn’t get over completely.
