Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: The mysterious death of a 40-year-old labourer, identified as Ranjit Kori, triggered an unusual protest in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda on Tuesday, March 25. Angered by police inaction, the victim’s family staged a protest by placing Kori’s dead body on the road, entirely blocking the Gonda-Utraula route at 5:30 PM.
The demonstration led to a heated argument between the police and the family members. After an hour of negotiations with the authorities, they decided to end the blockade.
According to Dainik Bhasker, Kori’s family alleged murder and accused a man named Dukhharan for his death. His body was found near a railway track in Nagar Kotwali. The police are currently investigating the case; however, preliminary findings suggest suicide.
Allegations of Murder
According to the Dainik Bhasker report, Kori, a resident of the Dhanauli village, left from home at 9:00 AM on March 24 for work in the Sony Kapoor village. When he failed to return home by night, his family tried calling him; however, his phone was switched off. At around 11:30 PM, police informed the family that Kori’s body had been discovered near the underground railway line in Sony Gumti.
The deceased’s son, Sachin, has accused Dukhharan, a resident of the Soni Harlal village, of murdering his father. He alleged that Dukhharan had previously threatened to kill Kori multiple times. The family also submitted a written complaint demanding strict action against the accused.
Police Launch Probe
As per the report, Kotwal Vivek Trivedi stated that the police are investigating the case based on the family’s complaint. However, prima facie evidence suggests a suicide. He further added that the exact cause of death can only be determined after the postmortem report. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has been warned against performing the last rites of Kori unless the accused is arrested and a case is registered.
