Capgemini India CEO Ashwin Yardi has a balanced and human view in the ongoing debate over the work of Indian employees. He dismissed the work of 70-90 hours of work week and advocated working for 47.5 hours per week. Speaking at the Nascom Technology and Leadership Forum (NTLF) in Mumbai, he also clarified that he is not in favor of sending emails to employees on weekends.

What did Ashwin Yardi say?
According to Live Mint report, when asked what should be the ideal work hours for Indian employees, he replied:
“Thirty -five and a half hours. We have nine hours a day and five days a week. “
He also said that he himself works on weekends, but avoids sending emails to employees. He believes that unless a problem can be solved on weekends, there is no point in harassing the employees.
“The results of the work matters more, not hours”
In this program, Nascom Chairperson Sindhu Gangadharan also said that the results of the work are more important, not how many hours were worked. Marico CEO Saugat Gupta also supported the idea, although he admitted that he sometimes sends emails at 11 pm.

Capgemini CEO’s statement came at a time when Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy advocated 70 hours of work week. After this, L&T Chairman SN Subramanian spoke of 90 hours of workweight, which further intensified the debate.
