A massive fire incident occurred on Friday in the canteen of Gwaire Hall, located on the main campus of Delhi University. According to Delhi Fire Service officials, the fire was reported around 10:55 am. Immediately four fire brigade vehicles were sent to the spot, which brought the fire under control after hours of hard work. It is a matter of relief that there is no news of any injury or casualty in this accident.

horror of fire

In the pictures released by Delhi Fire Service, high flames were seen rising from the canteen, which shows the seriousness of the incident. If the fire was not controlled in time, it could have caused huge damage. Officials said that a major accident was averted by timely control of the fire.

Death of a person who committed suicide near Parliament House

In another incident, a 26-year-old youth, who committed self-immolation near Parliament House, died at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Friday. Jitendra, a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, had tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol-like substance on his body near the new Parliament House on December 25. The security personnel immediately extinguished the fire and took him to the hospital, where he was admitted in the ‘burn ward’. But he died at 2:23 am on Friday due to 95 percent burns.

Reason behind self-immolation

According to initial investigation by the police, Jitendra took this step due to family dispute and legal problems. It was told that in Baghpat, two cases were registered against his family for assault with another family of the same village, due to which he was mentally disturbed.

The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem.

Police said that Jitendra’s body has been handed over to his family after post-mortem. The incident has shocked the family and the people of the area.

Both incidents underline the security and mental health challenges in the capital. Disasters like the fire on the university campus on the one hand, and serious social issues like suicide on the other hand, show that crisis management and public awareness need to be further strengthened.
