The central government has given great relief to central employees and pensioners under the Seventh Pay Commission. 2 percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) has been approved. With this, DA has now increased from 53% to 55%, which will directly affect the monthly income of millions of employees and pensioners.
New rates will be applicable from 1 January 2025
These new rates will come into effect from 1 January 2025 and along with this, employees will also get the benefit of arrears. About 48.66 lakh employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners will benefit from this decision. This announcement of the government will put an additional burden of Rs 6,614.04 crore on its annual budget.
How much salary will increase?
Dearness allowance is based on the basic salary (basic salary), so its effect is different on the salary of every employee.
For example – If the basic salary of an employee is Rs 20,000, earlier he used to get Rs 10,600 under 53% DA. Now he will get Rs 11,000 according to 55%. That is, the salary will increase by Rs 400 per month.
Similarly, if the basic salary of an employee is Rs 50,000, he used to get DA of Rs 26,500 earlier, which will now increase to Rs 27,500. In such a situation, there will be an increase of Rs 1,000 every month.
How many times a year does DA grow?
According to government rules, dearness allowance is extended twice a year – once in January and second time in July. After 3 percent increase in July 2024, DA was 50% to 53%, and now it has reached 55% in January 2025.
This decision is going to provide relief to government employees and pensioners amid growing inflation and will help in maintaining their economic balance.
