Actor Francisco San Martin, known for being a part of the show Days of Our Lives, died by suicide at the age of 39. He reportedly hung himself to death at his Los Angeles home on January 16, as per the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
San Martin played the role of Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives for six months in 2011. His appeared on the show as a petty thief who later turned out to be an officer on a mission to investigate a case in Salem.
His character subsequently moved to Argentina following a job promotion. Francisco’s character was later played by actor Jordi Vilasuso from 2016-17.
San Martin had also been a part of the hit show, Jane the Virgin, in which he played a key role opposite Gina Rodriguez. He appeared in the third and fourth seasons of the show. He was seen having a brief and messy relationship with the character of Jane on the show.
The Los Angeles police is now investigating the reason behind him taking the extreme step. Reportedly, no suicide note has been recovered so far.
As soon as news about San Martin’s demise broke, tributes poured for him from his fans and colleagues. Actor Camila Banus, who played his sister Gabi in Days of Our Lives, penned a heartbreaking note on Instagram which read, “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”
San Martin began his acting journey in children’s theatre productions while growing up in Montana. Later, he worked as a model and started taking acting classes. After completing his higher studies, he appeared in stage, TV and film productions in Spain.
The actor is also known for his performances in ‘Behind the Candelabra’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful.’
