Indore: DAVV Youth Mesmerised By Classical Music Extravaganza; Hindustani Musical Performance For Budding Engineers At SGSITS |

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, organised a grand Indian classical music presentation on Thursday. The event aimed to promote classical music and culture among the youth and was attended by prominent personalities, faculty and students.

The programme commenced with Vice-Chancellor Prof Rakesh Singhai and renowned classical singer Vidushi Kalapini Komkali lighting a lamp before the Goddess Saraswati idol, marking an auspicious beginning. Vidushi Kalapini captivated the audience with her soulful renditions.

She began her performance with Raag Madhuvanti, presenting the bandish “Shiv Aadi”, which created a serene atmosphere. Following this, she performed Pandit Kumar Gandharva’s iconic composition, “Main aau tere mandarwa”.

She also shared an interesting anecdote about the creation of this piece, which was warmly appreciated by the audience. Continuing the performance, Kalapini rendered Raag Hamir with the bandish “kaise ghar aau langarwa”, leaving the listeners spellbound. She concluded with a soulful rendition of Malwa’s phag songs and Kabir’s famous composition, “Ud jayega hans akela”.

The emotional depth of her performance earned resounding applause. In the Q&A session, Kalapini graciously answered audience questions, sharing insights into classical music’s nuances, its technicalities and the significance of preserving India’s rich musical heritage.

She also spoke about her experiences as a performer and the influence of her legendary father, Pandit Kumar Gandharva, on her musical journey. In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Rakesh Singhai motivated students to embrace and learn classical music, highlighting its cultural and spiritual significance.

He emphasised that such events are essential in preserving and promoting India’s cultural roots. The event was skillfully hosted by students Gaurangi Mehta and Rohit Panchal, adding a youthful charm to the evening.

The programme was attended by registrar Dr Ajay Verma, dean of student welfare Dr Lakshmikant Tripathi, Prof Chandan Gupta, Prof Yamini Karmarkar and several other faculty members and students.

The university administration vowed to continue organising such cultural events, fostering a deeper connection between youth and their rich cultural heritage and ensuring the preservation of India’s musical legacy for future generations.

Komkali, daughter and disciple of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva, mesmerised attendees with her soulful renditions, highlighting the intricate beauty of Hindustani classical music. Throughout the performance, she engaged with the audience, sharing valuable insights on preserving and promoting India’s traditional art forms.

In his address, college director Prof Neetesh Purohit highlighted the significance of India’s rich musical heritage in fostering holistic education. He encouraged students to actively engage with and appreciate India’s artistic traditions, recognising their importance in shaping well-rounded individuals. Prof Dr RC Gurjar and Dr Ashok Atulkar emphasised the importance of introducing students to the nation’s cultural legacy through such performances.
