Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 30-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly beaten to death by a sarpanch and seven others over a land dispute in Indargarh village of Shivpuri district on Tuesday. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who is on a foreign tour, tweeted that eight people had been arrested and Rs 4 lakh sanctioned for the family.

On Wednesday, as Congress cried hoarse over poor law and order situation, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav quickly dispatched minister Pradyumn Singh to meet aggrieved family members squatting on NH-46 to pacify them and assure of speedy justice.

The incident came to light after a video surfaced on social media showing 30-year-old Narad Jatav being beaten mercilessly with sticks and pipes by four men. One of the persons present on the scene recorded the brutal torture of youth on mobile and posted it on social media. The attack was a fall out of Jatav and his uncle’s objection to a road carved through their land to a hotel owned by sarpanch Padam Dhakad, said the police.

Kotwali police station in-charge Kripal Singh Rathore said, Jatav’s family protested in the medical college where his body was taken for autopsy. They kept on staging road block for hours, demanding the registration of an FIR against the accused. Later, a murder case was registered against the sarpanch and his other family members, including his wife and sons, Rathore said.
