Dalit Groom Attacked By Upper Caste Community People During Wedding Procession In MP, 4 Injured, Accused Held | FP Photo

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A deeply concerning incident has surfaced from Tikamgarh, where a Dalit groom’s wedding procession was attacked and assaulted by “upper caste” community people leading to a violent confrontation that left four people injured.

Riding a mare, wearing shoes were objected

According to police, the groom, Jitendra Ahirwar, was riding a mare, a tradition in Indian weddings when his procession encountered aggression from members of the “upper-caste” community in Mokhra village of Badagaon police station area of Tikamgarh district. Members of the “upper-caste” community allegedly objected to the groom wearing shoes and riding a mare through their locality.

A video of the incident showing an elderly woman allegedly pelting stones and boulders toward the groom, went viral on social media on Friday evening.

According to reports the groom Jitendra filed a complaint that he was targeted and humiliated on the basis of caste.

Accused held, soon to be present before the court

Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly registered an FIR (First Information Report) against the accused, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), including 126(1), 115(3), 351(2), 296, and other provisions along with provisions of the Atrocity Act the accused were held.

Police have identified the main accused as Bhankunwar, an elderly woman who allegedly initiated the attack by pelting stones, along with her sons, Drigpal and Suryapal, who reportedly hurled caste-based abuses at the groom and his family.

The investigation is underway, and the accused will soon be presented before the court.

Narrating the ordeal to the police, Jitendra Ahirwar said, “It was my wedding procession, and as part of tradition, my family and relatives were taking out a ‘Rachh’ (Vinayaki) through the village when we were attacked. They demanded I climb down off the mare and remove my shoes. When I protested, stones were hurled at us, shattering our celebrations and causing public humiliation

The incident has sparked an outrage on social media where people are calling out this as an unjust act and the preparators should be heavily punished.

People also urged to enforce stronger laws, to protect marginalized community from prejudice.
