Da arrears: There is good news for central employees. Soon they will get dearness allowance along with arrears. The remaining amount of three months will be released outright. It is noteworthy that the Central Government has recently amended the dearness allowance of the employees. This time his dearness allowance has been increased by 2 percent. His dearness allowance has increased from 53 percent to 55 percent since 1 January 2025. However, 2 percent growth is the lowest in the last 7 years. Along with this, this time the government approved it in the end of March. Therefore it will be paid in April. This will benefit about 48.6 lakh central government employees and 66.5 lakh pensioners. This increase will cost the government an annual burden of Rs 6,614 crore.
When and how much money will I get?
The new dearness allowance (DA) will be applicable from 1 January 2025, but the payment will be made in April. However, employees will also get arrears of January, February and March 2025. Employees whose basic salary is ₹ 18,000 has a profit of ₹ 360 per month. In this way, his total dues of three months will be ₹ 1080. It will also be paid with the salary of April. Pensioners who have the original pension of Rs 9,000 have got a profit of Rs 180 per month and will get Rs 540 as an arrear for three months. Dearness allowance is increased twice a year. Once in January and then in July. Now the next increase will be in July-December 2025. Which will usually be announced by October-November.
Why did dearness allow only 2% increase?
According to All India Consumer Prime Index (CPI-IW), DA/DR has increased by 2% since January 2025. In December 2024, the AICPI-IW number was 143.7. This led to the calculation of DA to 55.98%. But according to government rules, the number after the decimal point is not connected to inflation rate, so it was placed at 55%.
For the first time in 78 months in the last few years
Dearness allowance has increased at a rate of 3 or 4 percent. But this is the first time in 78 months (6 and a half years) when DA has been increased by just 2%. Earlier in 2018, dearness allowance was increased by 2 percent. Since then, there has been an increase of 3 or 4 percent continuously. Employees will get benefit from increase in dearness allowance before the new Pay Commission is implemented. But recently the Eighth Pay Commission was announced and soon after the announcement, the employees did not find it appropriate to increase dearness allowance by just 2 percent.
Will dearness allowance be zero?
With the implementation of the eighth pay commission, the calculation of dearness allowance may change once again. There is a discussion that dearness allowance will be merged into the original salary. This will resume the structure of the cell and DA will start again from zero. But this will completely depend on the recommendations of the panel. According to sources, when the government implements the eighth pay commission, the basis of calculation of dearness allowance can also change. Apart from this, the calculation of dearness allowance will start from zero.
