Bhopal: Cyber Help Desks Launched, 1st Fraud Case Registered At Habibganj Police Station | Representative Image
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cyber help desk began functioning at every police station in the city on Sunday. The first cyber fraud case was also registered at Habibganj police station. Police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra officially inaugurated cyber help desk at Habibganj police station, after which Mishra told media persons that new cases of cyber crime were on the rise.
To take quick action against cyber fraud case, cyber help desk officially started functioning at 37 police stations in the city. Immediately after inauguration of cyber help desk, first case was registered at Habibganj police station following a complaint filed by 65-year-old Jai Govind Raikwerker, a retired Assistant Director of Horticulture who said he was duped of Rs 1.29 lakh on the pretext of placing an online order on an e-commerce site.
Police station incharge Ajay Soni told Free Press that victim placed an order of Rs 250 for buying some eatable items on an e-commerce site on September 15, and after a few days when he did not receive his order, he searched for a customer care contact number from Google and contacted the fraudsters.
Fraudsters told the victim that he should pay the amount online to place his order. He followed their instructions and all the money from both his bank accounts was deducted on September 19. Police have filed an FIR against the fraudsters, also tracing their location. Further investigation is underway.
