Dead Fly in Khichdi: Bhopal Consumer Forum Orders Hotel to Pay ₹15,130 Compensation To Customer | AI Generated

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A customer has been awarded ₹15,130 in compensation after a dead fly was found in their food order from Vrindavan Dhaba on Swiggy, as directed by the Bhopal Consumer Forum in a food contamination case.

The matter dates back to year ago May 25, 2024. Abhishek Dixit, a resident of Gautam Nagar, had ordered butter khichdi and lassi from Swiggy at around 10:35 pm. When the order arrived, a dead fly was seen in the khichdi in the transparent packing even before opening the parcel.

Abhishek immediately lodged a complaint Swiggy through email and chat. In response, Swiggy said that they have paid the hotel and now it is not their responsibility. When there was no solution to the complaint, Abhishek filed a case in the consumer forum.

Consumer forum blamed the hotel’s negligence

The entire case was heard by Bhopal Consumer Forum President Yogesh Dutt Shukla and member Dr. Pratibha Pandey. In their verdict , they alleged that finding a dead fly in the food is the hotel’s negligence, they added that Swiggy is just a medium to deliver food, so it is not held accountable.

Compensation will have to be paid within 2 months

Complainant Abhishek Dixit’s lawyer Atharva Munjhe said that the consumer forum ordered the hotel to return the order amount of Rs 130 within 2 months.

Along with this, the restaurant is supposed to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation for mental agony and deficiency in service.

In case of non-payment, 9% annual interest will have to be paid. The hotel will also have to deposit Rs 5,000 as legal cost.
