In IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chepock Stadium after 17 years. After this defeat, CSK captain Rituraj Gaikwad spilled the pain. He cited bad fielding as the biggest reason for defeat.

Fielding became a villain of defeat

After the match, Rituraj Gaikwad said,
“I think the score of 170 was enough on this pitch, but we lost the match due to poor fielding. We gave an additional 20 runs, which changed our game plan in the powerplay. We left the catch, which gave RCB batsmen a chance to play big shots. We have to work more hard on our fielding.”

Rajat Patidar told victory special

In this match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar played an important innings of 51 runs and was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’. After the victory, he said,
“It is always special to win in Chepock. The fans here support their team in a different way. It was not easy to hit fours and sixes on this ground, but we adopted the right strategy.”

Brief details of the match

  • Batting first, RCB scored 196/7.

  • CSK started poorly and the team lost three wickets in the first two overs.

  • CSK captain Rituraj Gaikwad could not even open an account.

  • The entire team was able to score 146/8 and lost the match by 50 runs.

RCB win after 17 years in Chepock

Earlier, RCB defeated Chennai in Chepock in the first season of IPL in 2008. After this, there was a continuous defeat, but this time RCB tasted victory on this ground after 17 years.
