Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A labourer died and another was injured after a hook of a crane broke and fall on them at an under-construction site in Jabalpur on Friday afternoon. The victims were part of the labour force working on a flyover site on the Jabalpur-Katni highway.

The injured were taken to the district hospital immediately, where one of them succumbed to his injuries. Treatment of the other labourer is underway. The police were informed about the same, and they have taken cognizance of the issue and have initiated an investigation.

According to information, the deceased has been identified as Rahul Paul, a resident of West Bengal. According to sources, Paul, along with a number of labourers, was working on the under-construction flyover site at the Katni-Jabalpur highway near Gosalpur in Jabalpur. On Friday, a crane was called in to shift a heavy concrete block. Reportedly, the crane had a faulty hook that allegedly was ignored. When the crane hooked and pulled the concrete block, the hook snapped and fell on two labourers.

The labourers were immediately rescued with the help of other labourers and workers at the site. An ambulance was called, and the injured were sent to the district hospital for treatment. Out of the two injured, one succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Police Investigation

Police have taken cognisance of the matter and initiated an investigation. SP Sampat Upadhyay, talking to the press, stated that if any negligence is found, an FIR will be registered, and appropriate legal action will be taken.
