Not only do humans face the summer heat, but vehicles do too. Automobile enthusiasts and car owners would surely agree with this. So, how can you keep your car cool during peak hot weather? While parking in shaded or AC-enabled spaces is effective, an eco-friendly and desi method has recently gone viral. The hack, suggested by an ayurvedic doctor, urges people to use cow dung on their vehicles.

Cow dung applied on car

A video of a Mahindra XUV 300 coated with cow dung has gone viral from Maharashtra. The visuals reportedly surfaced from Pandharpur and showed the vehicle fully dressed with the cattle’s fecal matter. The car with the registration plate “MH 13 DT 7778”, belonging to ayurvedic practitioner Dr Ram Hari Kadam, featured the usage of cow dung to keep the vehicle cool during raising temperatures.

More details

Dr Kadam promoted the application of cow dung on cars to tackle summer heat while referring to this combat method as a native one. He asked people to combine cow dung with cow urine, prepare a paste, and carefully spread it on the outer surface of their vehicles.

He stated that cow dung naturally keeps the car cool without damaging the vehicle in anyway. “The heat does not cause any damage to the car or to me”, he was quoted as saying in news reports.

The ayurvedic doctor from Maharashtra’s Pandharpur told regional news media outlets that this coating lasts up to five months unless they experience heavy rainfall.

A report in Loksatta revealed that he had earlier coated his two-wheeler with the cow dung paste along with applying the material to the walls of his house.

Not the first time

In 2019, a woman from Gujarat went viral for similarly coating her car with cow dung.

Ahmedabad’s Sejah Shah painted her Toyota Altis with a thick coat of cow dung. She immediately became an internet sensation for giving a quirky look to her sedan. Instead of simply applying cow dung all over the car, she even created rangoli-like designs on the vehicle, amusing netizens.

Shah claimed the car remained cool even without air conditioning. “I drive my car switching off the AC as the cow-dung keeps it cool”, she then told news agency ANI.
