Mumbai – The Bombay High Court has voluntarily intervened on long waiting periods and delays in adoption cases and sought clarification from the Center and Central Adoption Resources Authority (CARA).

chief Justice. A bench of Justice Aaradhe and Justice Karnik had said that the court voluntarily consulted the PIL on the basis of a letter received after a press report regarding the complaint of a couple demanding a child to adopt a child.

According to media reports, the normal waiting period has increased to more than three years. The court has appointed senior advocate Milind Sathe and Advocate Gaurav Kshivastava as the court friend. The judge has asked the Center and Kara to file an affidavit and fixed the date of hearing 23 June.

Citing the data available on the KARA dashboard, the press report said that more than 35,000 proposed parents have registered for adoption in various categories, while the number of children available for adoption is only 2,400.
