Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has taken a tough stand on the petition filed in the Lok Sabha on the citizenship of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The High Court has ordered the Central Government to present a clear report on citizenship within ten days.
Justice A.R. Karnataka BJP worker S. The verdict was pronounced on a PIL filed by Vignesh Shishir. This order has been given by a bench of Justice Masudi and Justice Rajiv Singh. During the last hearing, Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey told the court that the Ministry concerned has written a letter to the UK government seeking information about the alleged British citizenship. Therefore, the government needs time to take a decision on the complaint.
The petitioner argued that he has all the documents and some emails of the British government that prove that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen. For all these reasons, Rahul Gandhi is ineligible to contest elections and to remain MPs. The case will be heard on 5 May.
