Badar Khan Suri: US President Donald Trump and his administration are known for taking arbitrary decisions. However, they forget that the democratic system of America is very strong and does not allow any person to take arbitrary decisions. Something similar happened in the case of an Indian researcher. In fact, an American court has stayed the exile of Indian researcher Badar Khan Suri. Suri is a postdorctor Fellow and is working on a student visa on a study and teaching in the US. The US Home Safety Department (DHS) accused him of promoting Hamas and spreading anti -Jewish rhetoric. Then Donald Trump tried to expel him from the country, but now the court has stayed this action.
Badar Khan Suri is a researcher at the University of Georgetown. He was recently detained by American Immigration Officers. The DHS claimed that Suri was promoting Hamas on social media and a suspect, who is a senior advisor of Hamas, had a close friendship. “Badar Khan Suri actively promotes Hamas and spreads anti -Jewish rhetoric,” DHS Assistant Secretary Trichia McLaglin said on the social media platform X. He has a close relationship with a suspected terrorist.
Suri is being targeted
However, the lawyer of Badar Khan Suri has denied these allegations. The lawyer said in the petition filed in the court that Suri is being targeted because his wife is Palestinian and has expressed her views independently, which is protected by the US Constitution.
Suri’s wife’s name is Muffaz Saleh. He said, ‘My husband’s arrest has destroyed our lives. Our three children need their father. He misses them a lot. As a mother, I need their cooperation to take care of my children and myself. ‘
Ban on exile
The court said in its order that until the final decision is made, Badar Khan Suri cannot be deported from the US. A spokesman for the University of Georgetown said that Suri’s visa has been canceled for research in the US. He is doing doctoral research on peace installation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The matter has come to light at a time when American immigration officials have started investigating many students and researchers in recent weeks. For example, Mahmood Khalil, a graduate student at Columbia University, who is a major Palestinian worker, was arrested on 8 March. He was arrested after participating in pro -Palestinian demonstrations on the campus. Similarly, another Colombian student, Laka Cordia, who hails from Palestine on the west coast, was detained on charges of ‘staying over the period of student visa’. In addition, Columbia student Ranjana Srinivasan decided to deport herself, called ‘self-disbursement’.
Badar Khan Suri’s case is being considered part of the increasing action on students and researchers in the United States. His supporters say that his wife’s identity and his views may be the reason, while DHS claims that it is a matter of national security. At present, Suri has got relief from the court in this case and until no order comes, he can continue his research in America. This case can intensify debate on immigration policies and freedom of expression in the US.
