Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A doctor fell victim to an online fraud and lost Rs 3.08 crore, crime branch officials said here on Friday. As per reports, a woman contacted him through a social media platform and duped him on the pretext of a good return on investment through her company.

Officials held the bank accounts used by the accused and efforts were on to identify her. According to DCP (crime) Rajesh Tripathi, a doctor lodged a complaint that a woman named Aaru Bhatt alias Aarti Bhatt contacted him through a social media platform a few days ago.

The woman later talked to him on WhatsApp and told him about an investment plan through an online trading portal named WEBULL. She sent him a link and got his entire information on the pretext of registration. After gaining his trust, she told him to invest money through the portal.

Initially, he saw a profit in the investment. He also received a good profit a couple of times. Aaru later informed the doctor that he could earn more profit by investing a larger amount so the complainant transferred Rs 1 crore to a bank account given by the fraudster.

After seeing the profit on the portal, the complainant tried to withdraw the amount and he talked with another person on the customer care number provided by the con woman.

The person at the other end informed the complainant that he had to pay 30 percent as income tax to receive money directly in his bank account. Then, the doctor transferred Rs 55 lakh as income tax. He was later informed that his amount was released but he did not get the money in his bank account for hours.
