“If someone protests or assault against Holi, we will bring it up.”
“Any student can celebrate Holi, it does not require the permission of the Vice Chancellor (VC) or Registrar.”
The MP assured Hindu students and said that if anyone has any problem, they themselves are standing for them.
How did the dispute begin?
On 25 February, Hindu students wrote a letter to the AMU administration seeking permission to organize Holi Milan ceremony at NRSC Club on 9 March.
The Vice Chancellor called a meeting of professors on this, but later when the students asked again, they were told that permission would not be given.
After this decision, a controversy about Holi started in the AMU campus.
Karni Sena also demonstrated
The All India Karni Sena also protested for not getting permission for Holi Milan ceremony.
On Thursday, Karni Sena officials took out a foot march and reached the collectorate and shouted slogans against the AMU administration.
The memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister was submitted to ADM City Amit Kumar Bhatt.
The Karni Sena announced that Holi will be played with Hindu students at AMU on Rangabhari Ekadashi on March 10, whether permission or not.
Karni Sena leader Gyanendra Singh Chauhan said,
“When AMU can have Roza Iftar and Eid union, then why not Holi union?”
What does administration and AMU have to say?
Adm City Amit Kumar Bhatt said that the AMU administration has the right to allow any event and it is being discussed.
He also said that strict action will be taken against those who play with law and order.
The AMU administration clarified that Holi has been played inside the hall for years among the students and there is no need for any permission.
What will happen next?
On March 10, Karni Sena and other Hindu organizations have announced to play Holi in AMU on Rangabhari Ekadashi.
The attitude of the administration and AMU’s decision will be monitored whether any solution to this dispute is found or a situation of confrontation.
