The controversy over the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Khuldabad) in Maharashtra is deepening. Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have also raised their voice on the issue after some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders demand the tomb be removed.

Both organizations have taken a tough stance and threatened that if the government fails to take action in the matter, they will “Karseva” and take steps at their level.

Memorandum will be submitted on March 17, demand for legal removal

Leaders of Bajrang Dal and VHP have announced that they will submit a memorandum to the state government on 17 March, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave.

  • If the government does not implement this demand, the statewide agitation and protests will be started.
  • Organizations say that this grave is a symbol of atrocities on Hindus under Aurangzeb’s rule, hence it should be removed.

“Aurangzeb’s grave is derogatory for Hindu society” – VHP leader

Talking to the media in Pune, a senior leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad said:

“The history of Aurangzeb is full of its cruelty. He imprisoned his father Shah Jahan, killed his brothers and destroyed thousands of Hindu temples. His grave being here is only glorifying his atrocities. The Maharashtra government should remove it immediately. ”

He further said that if the government fails to do so, then he will do ‘Karseva’ like the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and will go ahead to remove the tomb.

BJP leaders also demanded to remove grave

The demand for the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was first raised by Minister Nitesh Rane and former MP Navneet Rana in the Maharashtra government.

  • This demand was also supported by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
  • However, Fadnavis also said that “any action will be taken under the law only.”

Opposition attacked BJP, “try to eradicate history”

Opposition leaders have started surrounding the BJP on this dispute.

  • Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Council Ambadas Danve said:

“Aurangzeb’s tomb being here is proof that he came to India and was defeated here and killed. We should be able to tell that this is the same land where the emperor of India was defeated and buried. ”

Opposition parties believe that BJP is raising this issue only for political gains and is trying to erase history.

What will happen next?

  • The government’s stand will be clear after submitting the memorandum on 17 March.
  • If the government does not take steps, Bajrang Dal and VHP can hit the road.
  • Political conflict may increase and law and order situation may also be affected.
