The case against comedian Kunal Kamra has been catching on the comment on Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. An FIR has been lodged against him at MIDC police station in Mumbai. At the same time, leaders of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) have openly threatened him. Amidst this controversy, Kamra shared a picture with a copy of the Constitution of India and wrote, “This is the only way to move forward.”

Shiv Sena’s stance and threats

Shiv Sena MP Naresh MHSSE warned that Shiv Sena workers across the country will chase Kamra. In a video message, he said, “You will be forced to run away from India.” He also alleged that Kamra is a rented comedian and he is commenting on his leader with money.

Some pictures of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel have come out, in which he is seen showing a copy of the FIR. At the same time, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut shared his joke supporting Kamra and wrote, “Kunal’s Kamal.”

BJP’s response

BJP MLA Ram Kadam also targeted Kamra and said that he makes controversial comments for cheap popularity. He alleged that all this is happening at the behest of the Thackeray faction and this dispute has been raised to divert attention from the Disha Salian case. He even said that “wherever Kamra is seen, his face should be blackened.”

Demolition and FIR

An FIR has been lodged against Shiv Sena Yuva Sena (Shinde faction) general secretary Rahul Kanal and 19 others for vandalizing Mumbai’s Habitat Standup Comedy site. Police officials said the investigation of the case is going on and it is being decided that the accused will be arrested or left by giving notice.

The politics of Maharashtra has been hot over this whole matter, where a sharp response from the ruling parties has come to light on the one hand, while the opposition has called it an attack on freedom of expression.
